Author's Notes

I get to invent a new religion in this book, beginning with the hell of the dustbowl in southeastern Colorado during the Depression. A young World War I veteran, one of those stand-up people who stayed when almost everyone else left for the greener fields, is given a sense of the presence of God. With time, the gift becomes a faith followed by others and the magic turns downward. I got to understand black magic by writing this book.
